Weekend Breakdown: Mixed Mission at UMass (Update)

Another week begins.

From last week's end:

Seeing a mixed mission: Standards, access collide at UMass.

Boston Globe article on the College of Public and Community Service at UMass Boston.

The Mass Media has been covering the issue for the better part of the year, starting when rumours were flying around that the college would be closed:

CPCS Not Closing Down; CPCS Loses Dean; CPCS Angry Over Dean's Resignation; Provost Not Applauded.

The Washington Post's Jim VandeHei takes a look at the higher education and how it's playing in the Democratic presidential race: "Democratic presidential candidates, looking for a new political and policy edge in the nation's education debate, are calling for the federal government to play a bigger role to help send more students off to college..."

A Boston Globe magazine article on spirituality on campus, several days after a UCLA study (see post below): "New England's liberal college campuses have become fertile ground for the evangelical movement, which is attracting students in record numbers. But after they graduate, will they keep the faith?"

Campus Insider: Resistance at BU's College of Communication; UMass Boston Shutdown Shot Down; and more.

MORE: I've been told by a union representative that the Globe was incorrect when it noted that for "agreeing to take two vacation days over the holidays, workers would have received five extra paid days off, to be used by the end of the year." He said it was five for five, not five for two.

RELATED: A Mass Media article from two weeks ago, noting that campus shutdowns were a go.
