Globe: GOP Bill to penalize colleges that hike tutions higher than inflation rates
"A key House Republican introduced legislation yesterday that would threaten hundreds of millions of dollars in federal financial aid to colleges if their tuition increases are more than double the nation's inflation rate.
Representative Howard 'Buck' McKeon, a California Republican who chairs the House subcommittee on higher education, insisted his bill, which would create a College Affordability Index for comparing college tuition increases over three years with the Consumer Price Index, was not punitive or about controlling the price of a college education.
